FLOYD MAYWEATHER: THE MOST TALENTED, BUT NOT THE GREATEST BOXER OF HIS GENERATION

There is no doubt that Floyd Mayweather Jr.  is one of the greatest boxers in history. The only debate is where he ranks among the greats.

Even some of his harshest critics will agree to the fact that he is the most talented boxer today. His package of skills is arguably second to none when compared to his contemporaries. But how come he hasn’t achieved the level of stardom, respect and recognition that he’s been longing for?

He’s mentioned in the past that a number of people won’t give him the respect he deserves because he’s black. That may be true to some extent, but he must not forget the fact that many of the most respected boxers in history are African Americans.

The real reason, he hasn’t achieved the recognition and greatness that he and his fans expected from him is because of his questionable decision making and failure to stand behind his decisions.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has an unblemished record and contrary to popular belief did not always avoid the toughest competition. There was a time, when he fought all comers. He fought and dominated a prime Diego Corrales and outclassed Jose Luis Castillo in their rematch. His lists of other victims also include solid fighters such as Genaro Hernandez, Zab Zudah, Jesus Chavez and Carlos Baldomir.

But instead of continuing his path to greatness, he took a turn and went to the path towards the ‘money.’ There’s nothing wrong with that. Like Pacquiao, he’s sacrificed many things to get where he’s at today and had already paid his dues to earn the right to stir his career in whatever direction he wants.

The problem is while he says that “Legacy don’t pay the bills” he often contradicts it with his actions such as becoming defensive when his legacy is attacked. Let us not forget too, that he rejected a fight with Margarito that would have paid him $8 million dollars. The fact is that most athletes of his stature do care about their legacy and most fans are smart enough to know that. He might get more respect if he just stands by his decision or don’t contradict his statements with his actions.

Furthermore, Mayweather needs to know that following the path of money does not always lead to the path of greatness. In sports, you are often judge by what you have done lately and since 2005, he has not fought any elite fighters in his division.

Floyd Mayweather reputation has also taken a hit because of his questionable decisions. After Carlos Baldomir, he could have fought a prime Cotto, but chose to fight Oscar De La Hoya instead.

I can’t fault him for wanting to fight Oscar since the fight with the Golden Boy provided him the highest pay day of his career at the time and the chance to display his skills to a wider audience.

After the fight with Oscar, he became a household name and was on his way to becoming the face of the sport. But instead of facing the toughest competition in his division, he provided more ammunition for his critics by facing the smaller Hatton.

Still it was understandable since Hatton provided another big pay day, but by the same token the fans and many boxing insiders had the right to question his greatness and criticize his choice of opponents.

After that fight, he had a chance to silence his critics by facing the best fighters in a loaded division, but chose to retire prematurely. That might have been his worst decision since his popularity during that time was arguably rising and had the best chance to solidify his position among the greatest of all time since the welterweight division was packed with the some of the most talented boxers of the time.

Miguel Cotto was still undefeated and considered one of the best boxers pound for pound. There was Paul Williams who just scored a victory over Margarito. In addition, Shane Mosley had resurrected his career after two consecutive loses to Winky Wright by stringing five consecutive victories before losing a competitive fight with Cotto via a decision. There were a lot of fighters before he retired that he could have fought but chose not too for reasons only he himself know.

Had he not retired and fought Cotto, Williams or Mosley, then there might not even be any question who is the best pound for pound fighter today and the greatest boxer of his generation. He probably didn’t even need to beat all those fighters to gain the respect of his critics. It’s often been proven that undefeated records are overrated as proven by the fact that very few of the legends in the sport have spotless records. No one should criticize him for retiring, but he can’t expect people to put him in the same class as the Haglers and Leonards.

But what added to Floyd’s misfortune was Pacquiaos successful ascension to the higher weight classes after he retired. Pacquiao took the throne and quickly gained the admiration of many fans by doing what many expected from Floyd, which is to maximize his potential and face the greatest of challenges. It must have been a hard pill to swallow for Floyd, when he saw a fighter, whom he thought as inferior rapidly gain the respect that he had always longed for.

Many fans of Floyd Jr. brags about his intelligence, but whether they admit it or not Pacquiao made the smarter decision by taking the road less taken in his journey to become one of the greatest boxers in history. The road that included facing the toughest of challenges despite the risks involved.

Incidentally, what Pacquiao found out and what Mayweather should have known is that the following the road to greatness more often than not also leads to the path of money. Now, Pacquiao has become not only the best boxer of his generation, but one of its most bankable superstars.

As a result, Floyd now finds himself in danger of forever being in the shadow of Manny Pacquiao. The truth is Pacquiao has already surpassed all the expectations bestowed upon him and does not need Mayweather as much as the latter needs him to secure his legacy.

Yet, Floyd Jr. seems to be lucky since opportunities for him to gain the recognition that he had always wanted seems to constantly fall on his lap. The only problem is that he often fails to take advantage of them.

He had a chance to fight Manny Pacquiao in a bout that would have decided, who is truly the fighter of this generation, but again he found a way to ruin that opportunity. It provided the easiest way for Floyd to dispel many of the criticisms that have been thrown at him and prove to everyone that he truly belongs among the upper echelon of the greatest boxers in the sport.

Now the fight is off and his reputation of ducking the toughest opponents has become more credible. He’s not the only one at fault, as there is enough blame to spread among all the people involved. But no matter whose side you are on; one fact remains and that is Pacquiao is already willing to go above and beyond what is required for him. In fact, of the two fighters, it is not Pacquiao that is rumored to have a history of using a substance that is banned in most states. The truth is any argument that comes from the Mayweather camp or his followers are always going to be flawed since it’s rooted from baseless accusations.

Also, mandating an athlete of Pacquiao’s stature, who has no history of taking any illegal substance, to undergo a testing procedure that has never been forced upon to any of his peers before is nothing short of disrespectful. How would fans feel if someone mandated that Jordan or Tiger Woods undergo non-mandatory tests based on baseless accusations? Some have mentioned Lance Armstrong and Michael Phelps as examples of people that have succumbed to more tests than is required. But the difference is that they just volunteered to be tested more often than their peers using testing procedures that are already part of their respective sports and Pacquiao has already done that by agreeing to unlimited urine testing. Pacquiao is being pressured to succumb to a ‘non-mandatory’ testing procedure that has never been part of his routine as a boxer.

But the Mayweather camp’s request would have become more credible if they had been consistent with their statements. If Schaefer had agreed to blood testing when Mosley was asked to take one by the Judah camp during a negotiation for a possible fight. If Oscar had not said that Pacquiao’s punches weren’t hard and then suddenly changed his tune and wrote on his blog that the latter’s punches felt like Mosley’s and Vargas.’ If Haymon, who is Berto’s manager would have mandated that Mosley go through the same testing procedure since one of his main reasoning for Olympic drug testing in regards to Pacquiao is to protect Mayweather. So he doesn’t care about Berto? Mosley has admitted to using performance enhancing drugs ‘unknowingly’ and Pacquiao has not.

But even with those contradicting statements, many fans would have still given them the benefit of the doubt regarding their intentions of mandating Pacquiao to agree on the Olympic style testing if they had previous history of being vocal about the issue of having a more strenuous testing in the sport. Before this fight, I don’t remember any of them complaining about the current Nevada Athletic Commission testing procedures. I don’t remember any of them trying to put a group together to try to implement an Olympic style testing as part of the sport.

If Golden Boy Promotions’ intention was really to improve the current testing procedure for the betterment of the sport, then they could have set a precedent and had all their fighters mandated to undergo the Olympic style drug testing in order to set an example. But the fact is they haven’t and the only thing they have done is permanently tarnish the legacy of an athlete who has helped keep boxing alive while putting a large amount of money in their pockets.

If Mayweather Jr wants to gain the respect and recognition that he thinks he deserves then he must fight Pacquiao under the current rules of Nevada Athletic Commission or agree on Pacquiao’s compromise since the latter is already willing to go above what is required. If he’s got a problem with the current testing procedures, then he needs to take it up to the Nevada Athletic Commission.

For now his legacy will be the most talented boxer of his generation but not its greatest boxer since that title belongs to Manny Pacquiao. Until he faces and beats Pacquiao, then he will always be second best and that might even be debatable.

Very thoughtful article. Boxing has it’s 1st big fight in JANUARY…Mosley/Berto should be subject to blood tests if GOLDEN BOY really wants to help change the sport. Everyone who fights afterward will see that they are serious and NOT SINGLING Manny out.

  5. Michael Says:

Most talented? If you are referring to the talent of ducking other fighers, yes, he is the most talented. If you are referring to the talent of taking a drug (xylocaine) before a fight to enhance his performance, yes, he is the most talented. If you are referring to the talent of lying and accusing others, yes, he is the most talented. And, that, my friends, is the fact.

nice, but maybe they do it to get everybody’s intention( more pay per view)more money, but manny pacquiao loose less repect for baseless accusation especially those black brain, and mexican tacos

  10. Tex Says:

Who cares about Tiger? Elin should dump Tiger, and let him join Amway, along with his “girlfriends”, as Amway also screws anything that moves.

Amway is a scam, and here’s why: Amway pays out as little money as they can get away with, so they support the higher level IBOs ripping off their downline via the tool scam.

As a result, about 99% of IBOs operate at a net loss, while the top 1% make several TIMES more from their Amway tool scam than from the Amway products.

Read about it on my blog, I suggest you start here: http://tiny.cc/D5oJh and forward the information to everyone you know, so they don’t get scammed.

very well made article! unbiased. well documented.

  12. Paul Page Says:

i agree on floyd’s talent and skills. he’s just a coward boxer. if only he fights the best. pacquiao is never scared of getting hit. he fights his fight, he conquers the very best that boxing could offer.

  13. Maze Says:

Thank you for the great article… Nicely said. Floyd still needs to proove himself while Pacman already prove what he can do.

  14. alemo Says:

Mayweather is the most talented boxer in his time? I don’t agree. Unless he has beaten the likes of Mosley, Cotto and especially Pacquiao then perhaps he is the most talented.

  15. Ronnei ZD Says:

This the best article I’ve read so far. You covered all the issues regarding Floyd as a fighter and his flight to irrelevance as accurately as any one writer. Thank you for this and to make the people still making excuses for Floyd aware of his gimmicks.

  16. phlip Says:

floyd is so arrogant and thinks that he can set all rules he wants.

Anyway floyd is just jealous on manny’s achievement and respect. Even a lot of Americans do hate him because of this shit he calls himself the best fighter. He can’t even beat Mosley, Margarito and Cotto. How much more with Manny? He should lick Manny’s balls and he surely be famous.

  17. Garth Says:

    Couldn’t agree more.

  18. Pguevarra Says:

    Very very well said.

  19. Sam Says:

Very insightful and informative article. The love of money and arrogance are Floyd’s downfall. Rspect, legacy and integrity is not God-given, it has to be earned. Floyd has a God-given physical attributes but he has not used it well. He has to prove that he is the greatest. He did not and could not.

On the other hand, the less gifted Pacquiao’s humility and hard work has earned him the legacy of being the greatest of his generation.

Floyd just have to accept that he will always be second or third best of his generation.

  20. blanche_boy Says:

exactly, right on the button. after all that transpired and after the collapse of the negotiation for this fight, the burden is still with Mayweather. no amount of whatever respect and greatness will come to floyd’s name the way he handles every opportunity to prove that his more than the hype and rating they gave as a boxer. there’s one place he can be great as he think he is. in his MOUTH!

  21. Jun Nicolas Says:

I think this article is the most ACCURATE and OBJECTIVE article ever written about the aborted fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

It’s pretty clear from this write-up who messed up the negotiations.

This makes for an enjoyable reading and to start the day fine. Kudos to the writer. May your tribe increase.

  22. leo Says:

he still has the title Greatest but not as a boxer but a “Ducker” instead of his generation or should i say “of boxing history”

  23. dBomb Says:

  24. perry ayos Says:

I agree. Just watch Dancing with the Stars on YouTube.

  25. Dave Says:

I agree 100%! For its truthfulness and guts, this article should be read by all boxing fans around the world. I say, this article says the plain and simple truth about the great, great disparity between the Pacman and the Ducker. Kudos to the writer.

  26. jei Says:

I’m glad you wrote this Oliver and went on details, but again you have these knuckle heads mayweather’s fans that since to not able to handle the truth. I wish for mayweather’s fans to demand for him to fight those elite welterweights fighters and stop ducking instead of getting mad at those who try to bring the truth out about him.

  27. angelito Says:

Oliver, excellent points, u really got my attention. I like especially the point you brought up regarding Hamon’s hypocrisy in regards to the Mosley-Berto (relatively light) pre-fight test requirements. The entire Mayweather camp, from Junior down to minor managers, is riddled with hypocrisies. If Junior fights mediocre Malignaggi or below-average Hatton’s brother, instead of the Mosley-Berto winner, his legacy should forever be tarnished, however he wins those fights; in which case, Pacquiao should not fight him regardless of the mega-millions involved. Pacman should give Junior his own dose of medicine by not fighting him, should he win the Clottey fight and he gets courted later by the Mayweather camp. In my mind, Pacman should retire now or right after Clottey. His boxing legacy is more than cemented at this point. No point risking Parkinson’s after a few more gruelling 12-round matches. The busted eardrum is just too close to the brain and Mother nature is telling him to hang up his gloves soon. The March 13th itself is too doggone premature. Give the guy a break for heaven’s sake. Don’t treat him like a cash cow! Let him heal up completely first!Someone other Junky and mother Paquiao should tell him so. Roach of all people should not even dream up of lining up Pac against the winner of Mosley-Berto.

  28. jjamz Says:

    Kudos!

  29. Boyet Rodriguez Says:

How could only few commentators and reporters able to bring a reasonable and very informative comments like yours? I’m sorry to say but they need to think the way you do. Nice Job!

  30. fokai Says:

    This is a good article!
Thanks for a good write up Mr. Suarez.
I’m sure Manny feels being shoved and bully by GBP and Floyd’s camp. Manny has dignity to preserve, I don’t blame him for feeling disrespected. Absolutely correct what you wrote, Floyd must take it to NSAC to get it mandated in their policy.

  31. Anon Says:

Excellent article! It hits right where it should be. If we go down in history, all they have to read is this blog and it tells exactly what happened.

  32. Big Louie Says:

very good article I agree with you totally

  33. chris Says:

floyd should move to professional wrestling full time since he can’t keep it real.

  34. Eddy Says:

Most of the boxing writers are too concerned about presenting what they believe is an objective view of the Mayweather-Pacquiao dispute by always mentioning that both parties are being somewhat unreasonable. That’s simply nonsense. The Mayweather people are solely to blame for blowing this fight. The fight was ready to go until Mayweather’s camp created a obstacle for no valid reason. To the boxing writer community, it’s ok to say that Mayweather and Mayweather alone blew it. This has absolutely nothing to do with Pacquiao, Roach or Arum.

  35. Alex Santos Says:

  43. Robert R. Says:

Floyd mayweather is waaaaaayyyy better than manny pacquiao and he doesn’t need steroids to win fights! What you and everyone else is failing to mention is that pacquiao keeps making it look more and more obvious that he has used steroids by making all these excuses on why he doesn’t want to take random blood test!! He might have fought more big names than mayweather but most of them were on the decline or already had their weekness exposed. I’ll give you the rundown of pacquiaos supposed great fights morales and barrera had already beat the life out of eachother and by the time pacquiao fought them they weren’t hungry fighters anymore. Juan Manuel Marquez in my eyes actually won his fights against pacquiao. We all know that hatton was a bum who floyd mayweather already exposed as a fighter who drops his hands after he throws a punch. De la hoya is old as he’ll and had to lose a tremendous amount of weight just to fight pacquiao which made him weak. And cotto who got dismantled by a cheating Margarito and almost lost to a scrub like clottey!!!!! And there’s a chance that pacquiao might have done all this using sports enhancing drugs! He’s not in the same class as Floyd he has losses under his belt and some draws while Floyd is still undefeated!!!!

  44. Ed Says:

Floyd is not great !! Looking at the quality of his opponents and how he won his fights…Diego is the only opponent you can consider great but not that great.. Judah, Baldomir, Manfredy, Mitchell, past prime Oscar, smaller Hatton, etc..Who did he fight at 140 - 154lbs.??

He always wins by tko (early in his career)or points ‘coz he’s a boxer not a fighter. in other words, a runner. boring style.. He wins for his opponents are tired of chasing him the the latter rounds thus makes mistakes and openings..

Pacman is the opposite of everything i just mentioned: Diaz, Oscar, Hatton and Cotto were supposed to be too big and strong.. Now he’s fighting Clottey.. He takes on challenges (this not to mention who he conquered at 112- 130lbs.) and he wins convingcingly.. knocking out guys.. Steroid??? He simply grown naturally, look at his physique and weight in the last 5 years.. PACMAN IS AN ALL TIME GREAT !! I’m glad i lived in this generation..

  45. peter Says:

li’l floyd’s talent is mere lip service.

li’l floyd never deliver any in the ring.

  46. BrainShark Says:

Very well said sir.. this is the real unbiased write ups, 2 thumbs up :-)

  47. boxing fan Says:

very sensible. very well written. the mayweather camp and gbp are only imposing the olympic style drug testing on pacquiao. who at first, was never tested or suspected of illegal drugs, secondly, pacquiao is not an amateur. two things going around the internet about floyd and dela hoya.. first, they used xylocaine and secondly, they’re both acting very immaturely.

  48. ryan Says:

I agree. I believe Floyd is one of the best of this generation. He’s fought some good fighters, but I know he lost to Castillo in their first fight. He’s not unbeatable. I think he knows that too. What makes you a great fighter is not about having a loss on your record, it’s about who you fight. I believe Floyd ducked of the best Welterweights like Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Paul Williams like you said to fight for more money. His last fight with Marquez was a joke.

I also don’t think he should keep disrespecting all of these other boxers, when he’s not going to fight them anyways. It does nothing good for the sport of boxing or anyone.

  49. Rocky Says:

With all due respect i beg to disagree with your statement that Mayweather is the most talented boxer today. It is not enough that Mayweather won all his fights for their are some boxers who has perfect records and won all their fights but were never considered the most talented nor greatest in their era,

It is not enough that you win all your fights but how you win the same, who you beaten, and who you refused to fight.

Mayweather chooses his opponent to make sure that he has the greatest chance to win. He refused to fight the best available fighters and make all the excuses not to fight.

Unless Mayweather beat Pacman inside the ring while Pacman is in his prime then he will remain as a boxer who chicken out of the fighters who has a great chance to beat him.

  50. Karl Strauch Says:

    Hi,
Absolutely fabulous article. Exactly what I have been thinking and saying all along to friends of mine. Mayweather is envious and consumed by Pacquiao’s greatness and popularity.

  51. LADYSPY Says:

But even with those contradicting statements, many fans would have still given them the benefit of the doubt regarding their intentions of mandating Pacquiao to agree on the Olympic style testing if they had previous history of being vocal about the issue of having a more strenuous testing in the sport. Before this fight, I don’t remember any of them complaining about the current Nevada Athletic Commission testing procedures. I don’t remember any of them trying to put a group together to try to implement an Olympic style testing as part of the sport.

= AND THEY ASK THIS TO SOMEONE WHO NEVER FAILED IN THE TEST???GEEZ- I HAVE A NEW NAME FOR FLOYD! KFC!!meaning, KENTUCKY FLOYD CHICKEN!!!!!! GREAT ASSESSMENT OLIVER, THANK YOU!!!!

  52. vhinzky Says:

indeed!…floyd is the most borig fighter ive seen. If you floyd believe he is the p4p fighter & gain respect he should challenge bigger names in higher weight class…
when manny fought in higher weights he never complains, nor make some alibis’s & excuses, not even insist random blood test to his bigger opponents..
MANNY fought them very brilliantly with his consistent moves..
did MANNY insist random blood test when he fought the likes of BARRERA,MORALES,MARQUEZ,DIAZ,DELA HOYA HATTON, COTTO????????
did he ask floyd???…come to think of it floyd, your just proving yourself that your a loser!…

  53. raymond Says:

Best article I’ve ever read. Its not one sided but its about reality. If Floyd doesn’t trust Nevada Athletic Commission, he could have requested the Olympic style drug testing long time ago. Why now? It’s plain and simple, he is totally scared of Pacquiao.

  54. kentucky floyd chicken Says:

    you’re absolutely right mr.Oliver Suarez!

  55. TreeTop Says:

Correct!!! What’s the difference between having that blood test done few days before the fight and hving it done right after the fight? The Mayweather camp has really no reason to not agree of the terms offered, except that Floyd is “SCARED” of the PacMan.

  56. chuck Says:

they say that the pac uses PED’s or something and according to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_enhancing_drugs it cannot teach timing, skills, and speed. and i also believe that it is something that PED’s cannot give. lets just face it, the PAC is gifted and an athlete like him comes once in like a lifetime. we should thank him because he entertains us. if you bet steroids can give you skills like pacman then lets try to use it and lets see if we will have skills timing and a lot more on boxing. um… i dont think so, how about u?

  57. Larry_M Says:

Spot on! Pacquiao will be regarded as one of the greatest boxer of all time. Mayweather will be the greatest ducker of all time!!!

  58. Ocir Says:

The burden of proof should come from the accuser. Gayweather never had intention to fight from the start. He only wasted a lot of time of too many people. In his radio interview, he doesn’t care about legacy coz legacy doesn’t pay the bills…therefore, he picks easy fight to remain undefeated. He knew he can’t defeat such a great boxer like Mosley, Margarito and PACMAN…now he’s set his sight to Paula Malingaggi..what an easy fight again for him…HUGE COWARD!

  59. nct Says:

I tend to disagree with you. For me. Floyd is a talented coward. The way he avoids those other talented boxers, makes sense!
I’m sure that if the PAC agrees to his demands he will just find another excuse to avoid him.

  60. Ed Says:

Well said….FM had the chance to be the greatest of his generation, but he doesn’t want to take the risk. Now he’s far behind the list of greats…

  61. kirk3451 Says:

Reality bites in the ass! So True! Kudos to the writer for such a clear and unbiased article slicing through every angle of the truth for the world to see.

  62. Flipper Says:

PBF is a legend in his own mind. He might be the most skilled boxer of his generation, but he is not near being the greatest.

Greatness is earned through battles with the best fighters. Muhammad Ali had Frazier, Foreman, Norton, etc, etc. Sugar Ray Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Hagler et al seeked out the best of their generations.

Meanwhile, as the article stated, PBF continuously ducked the best fighters of his time, and they happened to be IN HIS WEIGHT CLASS.

Pacquiao is fighting Clottey next, who just happened to be a much bigger, livewire fighter, and his team has stated that they’ll go for the winner of Berto/Mosley after that.

We’ll see who PBF ends up fighting, but if he wants to get some of the love/respect being thrown Manny, it better not be of the Matthew Hatton/Paul M variety. Besides, I don’t think a major casino, or HBO would be foolish enough to get involve with such farce. I don’t think they’d be able to give away 15,000 tickets for that fight.

  63. Carl Says:

I am completely agree with this article.I am a Floyd fan but he thrown away the opportunity to prove that he is really the P4P king. Pacman deserved where he is now.

  64. Charles Says:

Floyd should have just agreed to the 24day cutoff date to make the fight with pacman happen. I think a fight between the two would end in either a decision for mayweather or a k.o. by pacman. I’m not sure which one would happen. I think mayweather should be the favorite though i wouldn’t doubt pacman could pull it off. The reason i say mayweather should have agreed to the 24day cutoff is instead of the 14day cutoff is because pacman claims he lost the first fight with erik morales cause of blood testing too close to the fight. If mayweather made pacman accept the 14day cutoff and mayweather beats pacman the first thing pacman will say is blood being drawn so close to the fight caused him to lose the fight. With 24days cutoff even though he wanted 30day cutoff he can’t use that excuse because he did a 24day blood testing cutoff against Ricky Hatton and looked sensation.

  65. giligan Says:

he is very scared to fight Pacman.thats it.

  66. Pacscorp Says:

Well said and balanced article. thank you.

    The Truth Exposed!

  68. jacupe Says:

BULL’S EYE !!! Now it’s time for Floyd, Jr. et al to prove their baseless steroid/PED accusations against Pacquiao in the court of law. Good luck Pretty Boy Floyd justice will find its way… soon.

  69. ben Says:

This is the era of a small brown guy coming from a third world, with phenomenal climbed in boxing…many can’t just accept that especially those nemesis of his legend and name. Talents are sprinkled all over this world by the greatest Creator, and not only in land of the so-called greatpeople. Let’s be fair and square with our dealings here, and not resort to dirty tactics, brandishing others as juicers. There will be more Manny coming up next, but just wait it will come in due time…1-2 decade maybe. Mayweather’s time is up, and only man to blame is himself and his handlers.

  70. leo royandoyan Says:

So far, this is one of the best articles regarding the Mayweather, Jr. - Pacquiao fight. Well written, even handed and free from the usual biases and mudslinging typical of partial publicists. Do keep writing more.

  71. Rewin Polinto Says:

    that is right his mouth

  72. Cire_Circle Says:

    Sir Suarez,

Congratulations in your article “FLOYD MAYWEATHER: THE MOST TALENTED, BUT NOT THE GREATEST BOXER OF HIS GENERATION”. You have summon and pen down what other writer’s have been spreading, talking and writing about. Your Calibre on this article is Masterpiece and most importantly is Fact. Amen.

  73. The Doc Says:

It could not have been better written. The Floyd fans are clutching at straws and jumping on just about anything (unsubstantiated or not) to help make a case for them. The majority of the attention seeking ‘Floyd extremists’ have now just simply resorted to bashing and inflammatory remarks to get their daily fix. Your article puts quite a few things in perspective. The question here now is, “Who’s Floyd gonna fight next?” It’ll be interesting to know what’s gonna happen to the GBP and their fighters as well as Mayweathers from here onwards. It’s also highly evident that Pac and Team Pacquiao are also retiring a few boxing writers/bloggers and analysts.

  74. djsketch Says:

Floyd is the BIGGEST COWARD boxer ever. Like Arum said ” Floyd never wanted to fight Manny Pacquiao”. Not the exact word but you get my point. I say to Floyd …Man up and fight Manny. Pacquiao has agreed to a compromise on this blood testing issue and he has gone beyond whats needed so therefore you ( Floyd) don’t have any reason why you can’t fight Manny…unless your scared.
You lost all the respect from all boxing fans. I am one of them. I used to think you were a great fighter but now you’ve lost my respect. I hope you read this…..

  75. techboi Says:

nice article.. i agree w/ the writer’s thoughts

  76. Winston Says:

Wow, you nailed it right on the button Oliver. even Stevie Wonder can see who is the true best fighter among the two. PBF is a coward and a chicken.

  77. Jim Spain Says:

Absolutely sir…… Floyd can prove he is the best or maybe the greatest by fighting Manny Pacquiao unfortunately he chicken out. He maybe have the best skill, the best talent in boxing but he is a coward.

  78. Rafael of Chicago Says:

Very informative article..KUDOS to the writer! I was really looking forward for the fight to happen between Manny and Floyd and I was excited as much as everyone else. Now, as Mayweather obviously ducking Pacquiao I really believe Manny must go on and doing what he is doing keeping boxing alive. Let this “GAYWEATHER” be remembered as the biggest ducking cherry picking boxer of all time!!!!

  79. jmc Says:

You hit the nail on the coffins of the Mayweather’s and The GBP… Good Read!

  80. joebentvice Says:

Very clearly and cogently written article.
this piece tells it as it is. Congrats Mr. Suarez.

  81. Forman Says:

Forget about the Pacman-floyd fight, this will never happen. Bring on de la joya-Pacman rematch at 154 lbs. This time he can’t make the excuse that he was dehydrated when the Pacman beats him the second time.

  82. Roberto Muring Says:

when floyd mayweather jr. has no more fights in the future to promote, by heart and soul he’ll join with his father, mayweather sr. for a great lifetime journey to Sumatra, where the Orangutans live. There they cherish their lives they used to be…

  83. Fast Eddie Says:

Great article and it really put Mayweather’s boxing talent and decision making (or lack of) in to perspective.

I’ve been a Floyd fan for some time but I can see why he will not be named along with the all time greats. Bert Sugar does not like to put fighters on his all time greats list while they are still fighting but has placed Pacquiao in his list (in the teens) and has labeled him as the greatest Asian fighter and greatest southpaw fighter ever! Take that Floyd!!

  84. notapacfan Says:

I hope most of the so called boxing writers, pen like you, most of them just want their piece to be read,or they just want to write something even though they know it is trash………..keep-up the good work,
i hate to read most of the write-ups anymore

  85. eewoll Says:

Nicely written EXCEPT FOR THE MOST TALENTED FIGHTER.

You don’t accuse someone of falsehoods if you have no proof - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB if you do. You don’t let go of 40million dollars just because you are not sure of winning the fight - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB.
You don’t surround yourself with idiots who contradict their own statements and actions, instead they are all around you and advising you - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB.

You don’t change your surname to another MAYWEATHER who had been convicted of drug dealing just because you want to be known - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB.

You don’t beat you wife especially you are well trained - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB.

You don’t ask the American people to side with you just because you an African American and your opponent is not - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB.

You don’t waste and throw all your money and you love them so much more than anything else in the world - WHICH MEANS YOU ARE SO DUMB.

Now let me think, IS HE THE MOST TALENTED FIGHTER?? You nake me laugh so loud, it hurts my tummy !!!!!!

  86. August Says:

Nice article though very long. I understand you explain everything.
Kudos to you. Keep up the good work.
BTW Clottey vs Pacquiao will fight at Cowboys Staduim.. We will watch and i am from Canada driving probably 24 hours.

  87. buddy Says:

THIS IS THE BEST ARTICLE I’VE READ ABOUT THE PACMAN-PBF ISSUE YOU JUST HIT THE TARGET SPOT ON. WELL DONE . I WISH MAYWEATHER WILL READ THIS…BUT DOES HE KNOW HOW TO READ ?

  88. Juan Pinoy Says:

Well said and analyzed. GBP and Team Mayweather blew this fight big time. They thought their dumb filled egoistic minds can twist the circumstances surrounding the negotiation but they blundered and all the bombs exploded on their camp. And now the crowning moment is the defamation case filed against them by Pacquaio. Clearly Pacquiao has beaten Mayweather without throwing a single jab.

  89. Trebor Says:

Very good article. But you have forgot two key words “Coward” and “Xylocaine”

  90. ATLAS Says:

    Exclusive from espn only, excerpts from 2nd encounter between R.A. and Floyd;
R.A.: Hello Floyd, I heard you had been cheating with Xylocaine to numb you hands?
Floyd: what you talking about? Its not illegal in Nevada thats why I dont want to fight in Dallas.
R.A. you are still cheating Floyd. You gain unfair advantage on your opponents for years by using Xylocaine!
Floyd: hey, Thats bullshit man. What yo talking about?
R.a.: You said you are the greatest but you use drugs and yet you accuse an even greater boxer of using one without any proof? How about that Floyd!
Floyd: Its not cheating man! Im just levelling the playing field in the spirit of spotmanship coz I got brittle hands!
R.A.: Hang on Floyd, If you got brittle hands dont box then! play soccer instead!
Floyds: What yo talkin’ about, I’ve been a sucker man!
    R.A.: S O C C E R not sucker dumb! where you use your feet only!
Floyd I always use my feet man, Im a Runner!
R.A. Yeah Floyd Sucker, Runner & Ducker whatever

nice article. hope Mayweather will be enlightened and recognized that he is no longer the face of boxing…

  93. botaks Says:

CORRECTION’ FLOYD IS NOT A TALENTED BOXER, BUT HE IS THE TALENTED GAY, THE BEAUTIFUL BOXER IS BETTER THAN HIM…. FLOYD IS CHICKEN A BLOOD SUCKER…. SPERM CELL SUCKER…… LOL….. THE COWARD BOXER OF ALL TIME…IT’S HISTORY FLOYD THE CHICKEN DUCKER… HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..

  94. loongbob Says:

What’s the big deal with Mayweather’s 40 and 0 record anyway? Before their first loss these fighters had better undefeated records than Floyd Mayweather, some a whole lot better. And there are probably a lot of other fighters I haven’t had time to check out.
So what makes Mayweather think he is so special? A record of 40 and 0 is not so special at all. This info should be mentioned on all boxing web sites.

Ricky Hatton – 43 and 0 before fight with Floyd
    Larry Holmes – 48 and 0
Rocky Marciano – 49 and 0 never defeated
    Carlos Zarate – 55 and 0
    Willie Pep – 63 and 0
    Julio Cesar Chavez – 88 and 0
    Sugar Ray Robinson – 93 and 0

  95. houston Says:

nice article..foyd,man up! go fight PAC!

  96. cynthia Says:

In an otherwise well written article, oliver suarez failed to mention the negative role of floyd sr. in this fiasco.
he was the one who repeatedly accused Pacman
of using peds.it was so baseless that i stopped reading writers who legitimized
this accusation under the guise of “balanced
    reporting”.

  97. vanillaice Says:

It has come to light today that Floyd Mayweather has used injectable pain killers such as Xylocaine in the past before fights. The irony being that this drug is illegal in nearly all states, with one notable exception, Nevada.
Taken from: Scott Heritage, Examiner. Jan 8, 2010

So mayweather is fooling all the boxing fans in the world by pretending that he is clean and pacman is using illegal drugs

  98. Mike Says:

the only reason floyd jr. wanted the blood test is to try what morales has done during their first fight with pacquiao. just to surmise floyd jr. in two words, jealousy & cowardice.

  99. Cris Says:

Look at what the Floyding* Chicken got lining up for a possible fight…Paulie M, Mat Hatton, and an undefeated young Mexican, whats his name? …. some line up huh!?! living up to your billing us the CHERRY PICKER OF ALL TIME!

*FLOYDING - new word in BOXING vocabulary; it means avoiding, ducking.

  100. tagor61 Says:

    great great great article! BULLSEYE!!

  101. Mark Says:

It is obvious why Dela Hoya and the Floyd did what they did to Manny, they are bitter against Manny!

Pacquiao RETIRED Dela Hoya, Pacquiao took the P4P KING Seat that once belonged to Floyd before he retired, but Manny never took it with more excitement than what Floyd did, and so, Floyd doesn’t want to be overshadowed.

Really, if boxing greatness is all these people really wanted, they could have just GONE AHEAD and FOUGHT MANNY in the RING but as everybody knows now, that did not HAPPEN, instead they chose to fight MANNY in the WAR of the WORDS and BASELESS accusations that BOOMERANGED ON THEM VERY UGLY!

  102. FLOYD MAYWEATHER: THE MOST TALENTED, BUT NOT THE GREATEST BOXER OF HIS GENERATION Says:

    [...] Source: boxing.fighthype.com [...]

  103. Jamison Says:

very well said! This article should be read by all boxing fans! These are absolutely no bias statements! This is a reflection of truth!

  104. winston Says:

HIS ONLY TALENT IS RUNNING AROUND IN CIRCLES.

  105. BRYght Says:

all i can say…. you have a wonderful article… for me your not being biased your just saying the truth about mayweather jr.

  106. mcemman Says:

I think the PaCman is the most talented and Greatest boxer in his generation! You can never be greatest when you are not the best! Mayweather is the best defensive boxer of his generation but not the best fighter in his generation but the PACMAN IS! It’s one thing to be the most skilled or best but floyd is only the BEST DEFENSIVE BOXER OF HIS GENERATION!

  107. quintojeffrey Says:

    wow im speechless!god job!!

  108. perseus e Says:

    A great insightful piece!
One of the most intelligent writing i’ve read on-line.
    Good job!

  109. George Says:

If PBF is the most talented boxer, Marion Jones must be the fastest female runner. But she’s not because of the PEDs she used. Which goes to say that PBF is NOT the MOST talented because he uses a painkiller which is illegal in all States except Nevada. And he’s been using it for all his fights within the last 10 years. This then goes to say that he is nowhere near even the great boxers that you can think of. And certainly too far from the greatest.

  110. DKoder Says:

Good job oli. Usually i can’t stand reading a long article but this one kept me reading. Keep it up.

  111. tae Says:

Mayweather should pick Bobby Pacquaio, Manny’s brother. Floyd closely matches with Bobby’s skills. I think this is a great fight. :-)

  112. Speedmaster Says:

    RUN Floyd, RUN!!!

  113. ramborge Says:

a clear citings and facts! BUT believe me! there are still a lot of dumbed floyd fans out there ,who could not apprehend and still won’t admit it! THATS FACT! DO I HAVE TO SAY MORE?

  114. Ariel Costa Says:

    Very well said Oliver…good job

  115. etondl Says:

Its because of his character and integrity. I think its not about his achievements. It is always his arrogance that comes to mind. I don’t really care about his attitude. Its about how he fights in the ring. Fans nowadays want the science of war and not the sweet science. And that’s another reason why he is unpopular to a lot of younger fans.

  116. red Says:

I think mayweather missed his opportunity to become the greatest fighter of today for ducking pacquiao. I dont think he will get the same opportunity again in the future because along the way an unavoidable circumstance, like one of them getting sick or injured could happen. Opportunity knocks only once and sadly floyd missed this one.

  117. balilong Says:

very well thought of article & I could not agree more…
the only way May weather can gain the respect he so desperately wanted is to stop all those thrash talking, accusations and brohaha and face pacquiao in the ring…

  118. eric32 Says:

    very well said…
    i cant agree more…
floyd is nothing especial at WW division..
i cant blame him for fighting an “old cant pull the trigger no more” ODLH and win in a non-impressive performance and fighting hatton not in his weight division for money…
but the problem is his claiming that his the best in his generation..
if only he have the guts to face mosley, pacquiao or paul williams and beat the crap out of them then thats the time i can give him my respect..
i cant even imagine he fight JMM who is a lightweight and fight him at a catch-weight at 143 then over weight himself 145 in weight-in then proclaim his the best….
Legacy Dont Pay Bills but stop bragging that ur the best Floyd jr..
    ur just embarrassing ur self….

  119. PBFthe NExt AmericanIdol Says:

Maybe PBF should join American Idol and sing Kenny Rogers ” Coward of the country ” song. PBF is the greatest???. No I don’t think so even if he fights and win against Manny. He’ll never be, specially now. I don’t think Manny will fight him. Manny will commit his life to his countrymen to better their lives. PBF will commit himself so he can get more moeny without getting hurt. I would say Ali, Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard are the best as you could see they fought like as if they don’t care what’s going to happen to them. Even if it hurts they still fight to give to fans. Cotto, Marquez and Hatton are far more greater than PBF. Maybe this is not entirely PBF’s fault for avoiding tough competitions. I believe some promoter are blinded by their own interest to not make good matchup, that’s why. Most talented, rpobably not Pernell is also good, DLH was also good and challenge better opponent like Trinidad, Mosley with steroids I believe, even against PBF, only if DLH was the same DLH, unfortunately Roach found out the other way. So PBF sorry not even talented

  120. karlo Says:

very nice article, very good points.

in short floyd became a chicken.

  121. choyet Says:

Pacquiao #1 pound4pound best fighter in the world………….. Mayweather #1pound4pound best BORING fighter in the world…….NO DOUBT

  122. red Says:

Whatever happened the past 2 months will be nothing when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, mayweather issues a statement saying,” okay pacman, you win, I won’t ask for any blood test, lets just do it without any conditions. Let’s give what the fans want. Let’s give them the best fight of this generation.” I wonder how pacman would react, how Arum would react. Can Floyd from being the bad guy be the hero?

  123. gitty Says:

    floyd is embarrassment to boxing.
The great Pacquiao brought back boxing.

  124. mannyman Says:

i hope gayweather sr. will sodomize jr.,all talk father and son,rot in hell assholes

  125. Berto Says:

Mayweather forgot to realize that the respect and greatness can not achieved through his unblemished record in boxing. Wake up Floyd!!!

  126. el diablo Says:

I enjoy reading your write-up. It’s a ******article. I hope Mayweather will fight Ivan Calderon. I’m expecting they will demand a random testing on this fight. It will be the blockbuster of the year (Joke Only). They should also test Bobby Pacquiao. An investigation should be initiated why Bobby Pacquiao is not as great as Manny, since the Philippines produces the best enhancement drugs. By then my doubts will be cleared.

  127. doubletangoromeo Says:

that is a very objective and fair write-up, analysis, and reporting oliver….THNK U!

  128. john Says:

BRAVO OLIVER!!!!! How I wish that all writers will be like you. . . you write-up was absolutely objective. . Boxing fans needs writer like you!!!

  129. dave Says:

me and the rest of the gangs will never, ever watch mayweather upcoming fights. . . That”s for sure!!!!

  130. Robert R. Says:

Lmfao! It’s hilarious to me how you people love to nit pick at anything mayweather says or does you want to bash him they reporters trash Terrell Owens. Mayweather will beat manny pactard easily not by running but by out boxing him which is what this sport is called (boxing) you say that mayweather runs but in every fight that he’s in he lands more punches than his opponents how can you do that by running? The point of boxing is to hit and not get hit!!! What’s so obvious is that manny pacquiao was a pretty average fighter early in his career who wasn’t a knockout puncher but over night by “working hard” he’s an animal hint hint ( steroids) no one in this sport moves up 6 weight classes and keeps their power! He comes from a country that is known for manufacturing sports enhancing drugs but yet nobody seems to mention that! Mayweather fought a lot of good fights and the one person who came close to beating him was castillo (yeah mayweather won that fight he landed more punches and won more rounds you can’t win a fight by just landing body punches unless u land more body punches than you’re opponents total punches) he completely embarasses his opponents!!!!!! He has never ducked anyone if the money is right he will fight anyone including pacquiao as long as he knows for 100% that’s pacquiao is clean and not on the Barry bonds aka balco! I heard Teddy atlas say on Friday night fights on espn2 that manny pacquiaos camp sent Floyd mayweathers camp an email asking what would be the penalty is manny has a positive steroid test and if he does would mayweathers camp be willing to not go public with the results for the betterment of boxing…… Hmmmm sounds like someone is gonna get busted. If manny wanted us to truly believe that he’s not a cheater he should have just did the random blood testing all the way up to the fight the fact that he didn’t want to do that proves that he has doubt that he’s gonna pass the tests. Oh and one more thing 14 days is waaaaayyyy more than enough time to get juiced out on steroids!!

  131. billy ongsueco Says:

SPORTS JOURNALISM AT ITS BEST !!!!!!!

A PIECE LOADED WITH FEARLESS VIEWS AND FACTS. WORTHY OF TIME AND READING.

OLIVER, MY UTMOST ADMIRATION FOR YOU ON THIS ONE.

  132. Chris Says:

The most talented? Mayweather Jr don’t think so otherwise he accepted the fight with Pacman by just playing by the rules. For Floyd the most talented is Pacman that is why he will take everything possible by taking every advantage Pacman has to level that natural talent advantage of Pacman.

  133. Rob Case Says:

Gayweather is afraid of PACMAN, hes a ducker and a chicken.

  134. gayfeather Says:

skills wise he is superb but knockout power he is not that good!!!and besides he is the only boxer that chickens out!!!!he has a tons of demands!!!olympic drug testing!!!! common man he is the only boxer in the history that demands like that!!!professional boxer gayweather u are a pro but ur brain is a unprofessional!!! gayweather is not no.1 for getting a demand like that!!go to wwe and fight rey mysterio!!!gayweather is just a clown!!! full of crap especially gayweather sr.

  135. zhunde Says:

I think He isn’t at all! And I also think that Mayweather is really be the best if he plays Dodgeball!

  136. juandelacruz Says:

    Nothing to say…..nice article!

  137. ayn Says:

Very well written. Manny fights for the the sport, he fights for his country, he fights for the fans and for everybody who loves boxing. While Mayweather fights for himself and money.

  138. doc billy Says:

    good analysis,very well written,informative!

  139. charls Says:

nice article, it penetrates to the bone…nice job keep up…Ever since manny is always been a clean fighter…

  140. gary Says:

i certainly agree to your article. im a long time boxing fan and this is the first time that i’ll comment on an article and i must say that its one of the best i have read i years. well written and though off. you know its really hard to believe that a small guy would come from 6 weight classes and defy all odds. Manny is just a freak and his type would probably come once in 50 years maybe. cant blame those pac haters, but i hope they see the guys love for the sport. his determination and work ethic during training is really inspiring. his strenght and talent is God given, i dont need blood test results, i just BELIEVE ! kudos to you :)

  141. Teddy Atlast Says:

Exclusive!! Excerpts from the 2nd encounter of R.A. and Ployd
R.A.: Hello Ployd! I learned that you been cheating with Xylocaine for years to numb your hands!
Ployd: What yo talkin’ man. Its not illegal in Nevada thats why I dont fight in Dallas.
R.A.: You are cheating Ployd! you gain unfair advantage on you opponents with xylocaine. You say you are the greatest yet you accuse an even greater boxer of using PEDS w/o any proof.
    Ployd: Its anaesthetic man!
R.A.: Its cheating Ployd. Its widely banned in other states. It enhances the performance of your hands so it is PED. Dont be a hypocrite Ployd!
Ployd: What yo talkin about! Im just levelling the playing field coz I got brittle hands.
R.A.: Hang on Ployd, hands are the main weapon of boxing. If you got brittle hands, dont box! Play soccer!
Ployd: hey man, i’ve been a sucker all my life! Wat yo talkin about!
    R.A. S O C C E R not SUCKER dumb! where you use your feet.
Ployd: I’ve been using my feet! I’m a runner in the ring! Wat yo talkin about!
    R.A.: sucker, runner, ducker! whatever!

  142. Fel Says:

great article.. well thought all throughout

  143. boxmeister Says:

Well written..to the point and concise for the truth. Mayweather jr and his cohorts stepped on their own dicks. He may be talented but that was then and not now…He just blew it and hopefully, he knows it. All my friends are ignoring his fights from now on. Not because he is not only boring, but because he tried to destroy the Pacman who stood up for his principles and tried to revamp boxing while it is on its lowest point. Boxing was energized because of Pacman, and Mayweather Jr is pulling it back down again…Thanks for the article worth reading by enlightenment hopefully to all Mayweather fanatics and to an average boxing fan like me who believes Pacman will do more for boxing and less by Mayweather’s blabbing insecure mouth.

  144. Jeremy Says:

Mayweather has already lost, People already know he’s been avoiding the best fights for years. The be to the man, you have to beat the man and now that man is PACQUIAO no doubt about it. Thats why the UFC is gaining popularity, they make the best fights happen, the best against the best. No pushovers to feed your perfect record, not coming into the fight over the weight limit, all PBF does is talk talk talk.

I really wish this fight happens to shut up all Gayweathers supporters once and for all. Pacman’s going to give him the beating of his life. You all are a minority if you think PBF is still the best. Wake up and smell the roses, when’s the last time PBF fought a real fight? he gets exposed more and more everyday and bet he picks another patsy to fight on march 13…Matt Hatton? get real, no one’s going to watch his fight coz everyones at dallas stadium for an action packed rumble between pacman and clottey

  145. HAHA Says:

FLOYD IS THE BEST… XYLOCAINE USER OF ALL TIME!
    FLOYD IS A XYLOCAINE ADDICT

FLOYD WON’T BOX ANYWHERE ELSE BECAUSE XYLOCAINE IS ILLEGAL EXCEPT IN LAS VEGAS

    FLOYD IS ON DRUGS!

    FLOYD IS A CHEAT!

  146. ARMAN Says:

THIS IS A VERY GOOD ARTICLE. I CAN’T BELEIVE MYSELF FOR THE FIRST TIME.AN AMERICAN BOXER DOES NOT REPRESENT THE COUNTRY I LOVE.COWARD!COWARD!MAYWEATHER IS A GOOD BOXER ,BUT TO BE THE BEST,YOU HAVE TI=O BEAT THE BEST.

  147. leithold Says:

Floyd Mayweather is the epitome of wasted talent. what a sad, sad reality for him.

  148. doki Says:

good article that puts everything that has happened in a perspective..

  149. racess22 Says:

pacquiao is the best boxer of the best his strength is give by god!!

  150. racess22 Says:

floyd is scared he dont care about the fans, his country or whatever he cares about himself he knows that manny will beat him badly thats all

  151. Paulie Gianini Says:

Floyd is a great and talented boxer but that alone doesn’t mean anything unless you take the risk and take the opposition head on. History will judge him by his past actions, just like how history will judge Manny. One only has to look at these 2 boxer’s past opponents and the adversity and risks they took to see who is the greater man between the 2.

  152. rollygab Says:

Very well said, all issues regarding Floyd Mayweather are perfectly evaluated. Manny Pacquiao doesn’t need Mayweather and his legacy in boxing is secured.

  153. Mayweathers Xylocaine Drug Issue Says:

Is this article published by Dan true? At examiner.com Dan wrote: “Its been proven that Floyd is the only one that uses illegal drugs to numb his hands before a fight. The only state that Legalizes the drugs Floyd uses for his hands is in Nevada Las Vegas, hence why the Floyd camp didn’t want it held in Texas stadium. 49 states have banned Xylocaine in boxing which he injects into his hands to numb any pain before the fight.

Floyd is using a drug to enhance his performance of his fist. He doesnt feel the pain of his punches so he can throw it harder. He is the real user of enhancement drugs not Pac. If pac is to take Olympic test then floyd should be banned from using a drug that will prevent him from using his own natural ability of feeling the punches.

Muhammid Ali had to beat Frazier with a broken hand and feel the pain why is floyd allowed not to feel the pain and CHEAT AGAIN!!

A WEIGHT CHEATER AND NOW A PAIN CHEATER!!! “

  162. clooney1911 Says:

This is the most ACCURATE, UNBIASED and UNPRETENTIOUS article ever written about the aborted fight between Manny Pacquiao and Pretty Floyd Mayweather.
It’s pretty clear from this write up who really messed up the negotiations.
it just sad to see how people can get blinded by their own hypocrisy.
    Kudos to you Oliver Suarez.

  163. Robert E Rousey Says:

Nice article. I agree with your points. As a fan, I would like to see Mayweather fight Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, or Tim Bradley. I believe these are fighters that would challenge him, and if he beats elite competition such as these fighters, you could not argue that he is one of if not the greatest fighter of his generation. If he does not fight the elite, we can just debate about how good he is. But people do not want to hear too much talk, they want to see greatness in the center of the ring.

  164. raiderjay Says:

You hit the nail right on the head. Unfortunately for Floyd he happens to have an equally mentally derailed father whose arrogance makes his son’s look like a mustard seed.

  165. jessss Says:

though it implies (and most have agreed) that mayweather is at fault for the collapse of the fight, i would say that his move also somehow put a stain on manny’s career. cheers to him for that. i’m a big pacquiao fan, but with the steroid issue that has just punched him in the face, i just couldn’t help but pray that he subject himself to drug testing (for his future fights) to once and for all clear this freakin’ issue and prove to all of his haters that he really is the world’s best p4p boxer.
also, cheers to the writer.. this is a very informative article

  166. orlan Says:

Thanks for the great article. I don’t understand why other articles claim to be balanced and objective by shifting a huge part of the blame to Pacquiao for standing his ground (as the P4P king’s right) after giving too many concessions already to a disrespectful, trash-talking, money-chasing coward. Pacquiao initially agreed to the extra conditions because he knew it was what the fight fans, except Floyd, wanted. Pacquaio wanted to shut Floyd up. What’s wrong with testing right after the fight? Nothing! There’s no way PEDs could be flushed out from the system in minutes. This fact is usually conveniently ignored in “balanced” views, articles and discussions.

Floyd Jr. may have been great or talented in his earlier years but I have my reservation. I have seen Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran fight, and there’s no way would I think Floyd Jr. can hold a candle to them. He has no will to fight for fighting’s sake. His recent fights have been boring. No way I would watch him “fight” another smaller guy. He even ran away from Marquez who was smaller than him. Marquez was forced to be the aggressor even when he himself is a counter-puncher by inclination. I think Floyd Jr.’s greatness was exaggerated by the boxing mafia to save the sport during the declining years of Dela Hoya. That’s the only explanation why Floyd (Thug) Sr. and (Thug)Jr. are still deemed relevant by the media.

Floyd Jr. needs the confidence boost Xylocaine gives him because he’s afraid of getting hurt. No way he’s fighting with his natural talent and ability if he’s on painkillers. Being hurt is part and parcel of boxing. Pacquiao fought with a broken hand.

What I don’t understand is how many people are still defending the Mayweathers. They have no redeeming value. Jr.’s fights are boring and opponents are cherry-picked. Sr.’s a trash-talking no good trainer. These aside from the drug case, Xylocaine, domestic abuse and tax evasion, etc.

Floyd ain’t even pretty so he should drop the “Pretty Boy” from his name.On second thought, “Pretty Boy” connotes a certain gayness so in his case we’ll have to make an exception. At least make it “Pretty Boy Fraud”.

Too bad this happened at a time when a lot of people were starting to find boxing interesting again.

  167. FIGHTHYPE \ ESPN AND ATLAS PROVES THERE’S NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN ‘BLOGGERS’ AND ‘REAL’ JOURNALISTS Says:

[...] The fact is Pacquiao’s compromise was more than enough considering his place in the sport as a superstar and that the Olympic style testing has never been part of a boxer’s routine.  If Mayweather Jr. had a problem with the current testing procedures of the sport, then he should have went to the Nevada Athletic Commission.  But I won’t go further in that issue since I already talked about that in my following articles:  Manny and Steroids and Mayweather Jr.: The Most Talented But Not The Greatest Of His Generation. 169. Fred Says:

Pac man is highly over rated, don’t have the skills Money has,and if he was not dirty he would have submitted the the drug test. Mayweather was going to be submitting the same test. No question Pac man is dirty.

  170. RICHARD Says:

Pretty Boy is to fast for Pacman……he really run so fast away from Pacman southpaw. If ever thier will be fight between the two of them PRETTY Boy will have to change his name because its going to be UGLY for him.

  171. raiderjay Says:

If I were Floydie I will wave all my demands in lieu of one “stiff condition” - that is - me and the Pacman fight in a track and field oval. There Manny will never be able to catch and hit me.
